  • IDS fair prep
Today I continued planning out my posterboard; I decided on creating a sort of guessing game on how each article places on Google Search, and I am also going to use an analysis on how to optimize articles with keywords and such. I lastly just continued analyzing PiMyLifeUp’s article and my own. I worked on it in the afternoon. I related my project to Web Development 10, by relating my inspiration to one of the…
  • Analyzing articles
For my main ‘showcase’ of my findings in IDS fair, I analyzed two different articles: One by me, and one by PiMyLifeUp. I highlighted important aspects of the articles, and began to discuss their strategies. I did some extra, detailed research on how the use of keywords supports the search engine’s promotion of people’s website. I also added comments so I know what to write as comments, pointing out the strategies used.
  • New Post (Learning journey dropping tomorrow)
Today, I created a new post on how to set up a voice assistant using the raspberry pi, like Siri or Cortana. I got it working, it’s called Mycroft, and I unfortunately do not intend on using it. My main SEO learning from today was optimizing lists; it is easy for google to read lists and provide answers straight from the web page, so your site often shows up on top rather than other competitive…
  • New post :D, new ideas!
Yesterday, I created a learning journey on something or another. Right now, I’m really tired, and I don’t have the tab open so I reckon it was fairly well written. Anyways, I made a tutorial on how to set up a Network-Attatched Storage Device (NAT). Pretty interesting, I am now looking into starting a nextcloud server as my next tutorial. It’s like a free, fun version of Google Drive. That does speak to me; hosting…
  • New post, no learning journey
Today I wrote a new post for like 4 hours, search engine optimized it to the keyword Command Line Interface, and spent time researching the most well known linux commands. You know what I didn’t do? A learning journey! AND, I’m SUPER behind on those! So, I’m going to make a pledge of creating a learning journey for every session I finish for the next week. I can’t update you too much on my learning…
  • Finished article
Today, I finished my article on how to configure USB devices on the raspberry pi. I am making this portfolio after the fact, but one issue I ran into was being unable to detect my USB drive, which inspired me to create a troubleshooting section, which both extended the length and usability of the article. Afterwards, I tried to make it more readable by adding bolded letters and lists, bullet points, and headings. Tomorrow, I…
  • New HUGE post
Today, I made gigantic post on how to run an emulation station on the raspberry pi. I tried to switch it up today, making the post more of an overview than anything, but it turned out well. I’m just writing this after I finished it. The main challenge with my process today was the fact that I had to figure it out myself. I ended up making the project on my own raspberry pi, and…
  • Writing a new article, chasing personal interests
Today, I decided to scrap my CGNAT article, and I started a new article on how to donate your computer to science! I looked into BOINC, a program that uses your computer’s power to create science! I wrote my tutorial for the raspberry pi and decided to finish it in the same session. I am now using the raspberry pi for science, contributing to scientific projects! Yippee! That’s what I’ve done today. you can check…
  • New Post – Long one this time!
Today, I just made a new post, catching up on the missed progress from the weekend. I’ll catch up tomorrow too. Pretty much, I just plunked away and made this article about making a web server. Something interesting is that the port forwarding did not work on my raspberry pi, so I also started to make a tutorial on how to bypass Carrier Grade NAT, something that prevents most networks from having a fixed IP…
  • IDS check ins
I started off by changing my piproficient.com home screen; it had a big blank space for images in the articles, but I haven’t inserted any so it looks pretty bad. Then I remembered that I needed to check in on my google search console. This led me to try and add a sitemap, which is a file that tells google to look at all the different parts of the site. I then continued to edit…
  • New tutorial!
Today, I created a new tutorial for my site. I recently got a VPN so I decided to add a tutorial on how to connect to a vpn. This was my first tutorial that I didn’t know off the top of my head, so I had to do some research before I did it. I also didn’t want to copy and plagerize these other tutorials, so it was a bit of a trickier article to…
  • Edited site, configured comments, and added post
Today, I started out by opening up my site to create a new post. However, I saw I had a notification for a new comment: cambridge essay free pro write essay cambridge essay now Random commenter Why are they commenting? They aren’t even promoting a service. This is a problem. I don’t want google to flag my site for negative content (as the comment is text on the site), so I want to remove this…
  • Google search console & currents statistics
Today, I used the google search console to monitor and set up my website’s statistics. This is useful because I can determine which articles are performing best and can then figure out what the most effective way of optimizing the search engine is. I started by figuring out what a TXT record is. It’s basically something services use to verify you own a domain. In this case, it’s used for Google Search Console. It’s not…
  • Published ultimate guide, account approval
Today, I got an email from instagram support that my account @piproficient has been approved and they apologized for any inconvenience. I also verified that my tutorial worked by running it on my own raspberry pi, and I think something I will do in the future is create a tutorial on how to install add-ons to the server. I can keep on using internal links, which are very useful tools to keep people on your…
  • Learning journey, account ban
Today, I wrote a learning journey. I spent a fair amount of effort on it, check it out! (Why do we trust tutorials?). I also opened up instagram on my computer for unrelated business but found that I was logged in to a new account I created a few weeks ago (piproficient). It had been banned, so I needed to submit an appeal form. This included writing on a piece of paper to prove that…
  • ULTIMATE GUIDE: HOW TO WRITE A LEARNING PORTFOLIO
Today, I’m expanding on my previous tutorial, which was a shorter one on how to create a minecraft server. I intend on creating a comprehensive guide. Basically, I am doing the project from start to finish on my own raspberry pi, and logging what works for me in my article. To view my progress, pretty much just look at the article. I don’t really want to re write everything here, just to be more efficient.…
  • Another article + learning journey
Today, I created another article for my site, made a learning journey, and added some helpful tools to make my writing better. I decided to make another basic tutorial on enabling SSH for a raspberry pi. I checked out my statistics from my other article and it shows 16 pageviews! That’s great. I want to add a code syntax editor for this article. I am looking at two different ones, enlightment, and code syntax. Sorry…
  • Fixing the site issue… why did I try to move it?
Where is my site? That’s the question we finished with yesterday. My site was showing up on piproficient.com, but not on my bluehost dashboard. So, I tried to fix this. I started by going through the files in cPanel, the file manager for the virtual server I’m using, BlueHost. I think that the reason the website isn’t showing up on the dashboard is because the site manager is looking for files in the /web folder…
  • Migrated site and ANOTHER post!
Today, I signed up for MonsterInsights, an insight plugin so I can see what countries my 4 visitors are from! I also installed a plugin to move my site from piproficient.com/web to piproficient.com . However, I messed up the filing pretty badly. I moved all the files to piproficient.com in the file manager but it didn’t work. So, I am now trying to connect the database to something or another, I have learned my lesson.…
  • First post, First logo, and launched site!
Today, I am super tired (1AM) but I got a lot done. I launched the site (http://piproficient.com) and made my first post! It’s about pinging using a raspberry pi; it wasn’t SEO optimized, but it was something. I also finalized my logo: I made a catchphrase along with it. I think the styling is good, the motto is good (for what I want to achieve). I just need to go to bed, sorry for the…
  • Asked to unblock website
Today, It wasn’t a long session. I logged on, remembered my website was blocked, and sent an E-mail to my mentor to request its unblocking. I also tried to sign up for Monster Insights, a Search Engine Opitmization tool. After entering information, confirming my account, etc.., it asked me for a credit card to ‘verify’ my account. No thanks. So, not so productive. But, I’m planning on doing more this afternoon, when I get home.
  • IDS check ins & the dreaded blacklist
Today, I’m doing IDS check ins with my mentor – hopefully, I can make up for my lack of progress in February. I have my past few learning journeys pulled up, and even though they are about AI, nothing else has really resonated with me – it’s busywork. So, I pulled up my site piproficient.com to show my mentor – but I get an error message. This is the result of something I now remember…
  • Setting up the site, making a logo, and should I use AI?
This evening, I set up the site “pi proficient” and chose a theme. I then tried to make a logo. Setting the site up was fairly easy, I just configured a few plugins and chose a theme. I decided on SmartCube, a theme that looks like a news site, which I personally think will be very flexible. I also want my website to be simple, and not so modern. In addition to that, I think…
  • AI & the replacement of websites
Recently, ChatGPT has taken the internet by storm. It’s the first platform to reach 100M+ users in one month, and many are using it to gain information on certain subjects, such as technology. This begs the question, can AI replace humans who explain this? No. AI are not capable enough to take over writers; they predict the next words that are most likely to appear, while humans are conscious and write words because it is…
  • SSL certificate – and trying to secure an interview
This session I, I created an epic SSL certificate – it makes the little checkmark next to the domain in the web address. I also sorted out the fact that BlueHost (my hosting provider) did not show me the site so I could log in, so I just created a new site at http://piproficient.com/web. Lastly, I emailed the creators of http://pimylifeup.com to hopefully ask them some questions about how they got their site so popular…
  • Bought piproficient.com
Today, I FINALLY bought my domain for my tutorial website, after going through BlueHost and their extremely easy support options. I started by creating an account and paying up $48 to claim a free domain name (More on that later). I then went through a small amount of support to claim the domain, which was fairly hard. I first had to ask them very politely to claim my free domain because I didn’t claim it…
  • Brand name – copyright infringement
I was thinking about registering the “raspberrypidiy” name today, but decided to do one last look into the copyright + trademark rights of the “Raspberry Pi” name. I’m glad I did. After doing some digging, The Raspberry Pi Trademark rules state that “[You may not] (ii) use the Raspberry Pi Word Marks as part of the domain name for your website”. ALSO, they state you can’t use it for your social media. I’m going to…
  • Set up a seperate profile for Raspberry Pi
I’ve actually used my website domain for something useful! I created a new icloud mail account called raspberrypiDIY@noah-w.com, and it is definitely useful. I don’t have to create any gmail accounts, and the name raspberrypiDIY@gmail.com was already taken, so now I can easily remember my email address. I also created a new profile for my Mac that is called “Raspberry Pi DIY”, and I plan to use it for screenshots of tutorials so I don’t…
  • Managed Instagram page
For the past few days, I have been making 2 posts a day on the raspberrypiDIY instagram. I have strategically used hashtags, and will soon cross 500 followers. I simply repost popular content related to the raspberry pi, and while it isn’t my long term strategy, it is working. (See insights) I am definitely benefiting from the popular content I am reposting; but it does take time to find, describe and repost the content. I…
  • Started analyzing traffic + adding ads
I created a new google business account, so hopefully I will be able to monetize my website. I am testing with this website first, so I can monetize my other site. If you are seeing ads, it is working! I had to figure out something called google AdSense. It’s a bit complex but it allows you to publish ads on your site without too much hassle. I’m going to use it to start, then I…
  • Submitted IDS proposal + Managed Instagram account
Today, I re-submitted my IDS proposal, so I hope that will get up and running and I can invest more time into this project. I also have spent around 30 mins in the past few days managing the Instagram account. One thing I did was upload a story announcing the launch of a website; Hopefully, I follow through with that. Tomorrow, I think I will create a WordPress website for the “raspberrypidiy” topic and start…
  • Creating an Instagram account
Three days ago, I started a social media account called @raspberrypidiy on Instagram. I figured that the best way to get started would be to… Just, start! In the past three days, my plan to gain influence was simple: So, what’s next? I want to make a website that is a spot to look for tutorials and advice for small computers like the Raspberry Pi. I want to build a community around it, and make…
